Which components used on Vehicle Tracking System

Date: 2023-10-30

What is vehicle tracking system?

A vehicle tracking system is a technology that allows the monitoring and tracking of vehicles, typically using GPS (Global Positioning System) and cellular or satellite communication technology. It involves the installation of a tracking device in a vehicle, which transmits location, speed, and other data to a central management system or software. Vehicle tracking systems make it possible to have an instantaneous and history tracking of vehicle speeds, the routes they followed, stopping points, idling times on maps providing a registry and check point with past and present reports.

How to make the Vehicle Tracking System work?

A vehicle tracking system typically consists of three main components: the tracking device, communication technology, and the tracking software or management system. Let’s check how it works:

Tracking Device Installation: a small tracking device is installed in the vehicle, often in a discreet location. This device contains a GPS receiver, which receives signals from GPS satellites to determine the vehicle's precise location. Additionally, it may have other sensors or functionalities, such as speed sensors or vehicle diagnostics.

GPS and Location Data: The tracking device continuously tracks the vehicle's movements using GPS technology and generates location data, including latitude, longitude, and altitude. It calculates the vehicle's speed, direction, and sometimes, additional data such as fuel level, engine status, or driver behavior.

Communication Technology: The tracking device utilizes cellular networks or satellite communication to transmit the collected data to a central server or cloud-based tracking platform. It may use GSM, GPRS, 3G/4G, or even satellite communication depending on the tracking system's capabilities and coverage in the operating area.

Data Transmission: The tracking device sends the location and other relevant data in real-time or at scheduled intervals to the tracking system's server. The data may be encrypted for security purposes.

Tracking Software and Management: The tracking system's server or cloud-based software receives and processes the incoming data from multiple vehicles. The software interprets the data, organizes it, and presents it in a user-friendly manner, allowing users to track and monitor vehicles on a digital map.

User Interface and Monitoring: The tracking software provides a user interface, which can be accessed through web-based or mobile applications. Users, such as fleet managers or vehicle owners, can view the real-time location of vehicles, track their routes, monitor speed, identify stops, and perform various management and analysis functions. They can set up geofences (virtual boundaries), generate reports, receive alerts for specific events (speeding, unauthorized usage, etc.), and optimize operations based on the collected data.

Which passive components are used on vehicle tracking system?

Passive components are electronic components that do not require a power source to function. In a vehicle tracking system, some common passive components used include:

Resistors: Resistors are used to control the flow of electrical current and limit voltage levels in different parts of the tracking system.

Capacitors: Capacitors store and release electrical energy to smooth out voltage fluctuations and provide stability to the tracking system.

Inductors: Inductors are used to store energy in a magnetic field and regulate current flow. They can help filter out noise and stabilize power supply voltages.

Diodes: Diodes are used to allow current flow in one direction while blocking it in the opposite direction. They are often used for power rectification and protection against reverse polarity.

Transformers: Transformers help step up or step down electrical voltage levels. They are commonly used in power supply units to convert voltage for different components of the tracking system.
