Main types of chip inductors

There are 4 main types of chip inductors, namely winding type, stacked type, braided type and thin film chip inductors. The most commonly used types are winding type and stacked type. The former is the product of miniaturization of traditional winding inductors; the latter is made by multi-layer printing technology and stacked production process, and the volume is smaller than the winding type chip inductor. It is a key product developed in the field of inductor components.

Winding type
Its characteristics are wide inductance range (mH~H), high inductance accuracy, low loss (i.e. large Q), large allowable current, strong inheritance of manufacturing process, simple, low cost, etc., but the disadvantage is that it is limited in further miniaturization. The winding type chip inductor with ceramic core can maintain stable inductance and a relatively high Q value at such a high frequency, so it occupies a place in high-frequency circuits.

Stacked type
It has good magnetic shielding, high sintering density and good mechanical strength. The disadvantages are low pass rate, high cost, small inductance and low Q value.
Compared with wound chip inductors, it has many advantages: small size, which is conducive to miniaturization of circuits, closed magnetic circuit, will not interfere with surrounding components, and will not be interfered by adjacent components, which is conducive to high-density installation of components; integrated structure, high reliability; good heat resistance and solderability; regular shape, suitable for automated surface mounting production.

Thin film chip type
It has the characteristics of maintaining high Q, high precision, high stability and small volume in the microwave frequency band. Its internal electrodes are concentrated on the same level, and the magnetic field distribution is concentrated, which can ensure that the device parameters after mounting do not change much, and show good frequency characteristics above 100MHz.

Braided type
The characteristics are that the unit volume inductance at 1MHz is larger than other chip inductors, small size, and easy to install on the substrate. Used as a micro magnetic component for power processing.

Inductors are suitable for use in various small technology products, such as monitors, graphics cards, etc. They seem to have become an important part of the computer. Although they are not large in size, they occupy a core position in the entire computer. In fact, this type of inductor seems to have become an important component of these high-tech products. In the minds of the public, its price is not high, but its status is not low at all.
